Wollongong hairdresser turned business owner, Kimberley Leplaw, is proving that career dreams can be built right here in the Illawarra - one client, one haircut, and one opportunity at a time.

After 17 years working her way up through the Just Cuts network, Kimberley is now the proud owner of Just Cuts Wollongong, leading a thriving salon in the heart of the city and inspiring other locals who dream of running their own business.

Kimberley began her career as a Stylist before progressing to 2IC, Team Leader and Operations Manager roles. For her, becoming a franchise owner felt like a natural next step.

“It seemed like the next obvious choice to grow my career and challenge myself,” Kimberleysays. “I love what I do, I love this community, and owning the Salon means I get to put everything I’ve learnt into practice every day.”

Now leading a talented team of stylists, Kimberley empowers her staff just as she was empowered.

“I believe in open communication, constructive feedback and creating a team built on respect,” she says. “I encourage everyone to share ideas and knowledge - that’s how we all grow together.”

Whilst Kimberley had 17 years experience in Just Cuts, no experience in hairdressing is needed to become a Just Cuts Salon Owner.

Kimberley says Just Cuts has given her the “best of both worlds” - independence as a business owner, backed by national support and training.

“I enjoy being my own boss, but I also have the support of an established system and the flexibility that gives me in my life.”

With a strong customer base and a team that recently reached the finals in the Local Business Awards, Kimberley credits her success to community connection and the support of the Just Cuts network.

“There’s always someone willing to help whether its staff training or technical advice. You never feel alone in this business.”

Looking ahead, Kimberley has big goals including joining the Just Cuts Million Dollar Club  and continuing to serve the loyal clients who walk through her doors every day.

Her message to other Wollongong locals considering stepping into their own business?

“Yes, it was extremely easy to step into ownership. Everything was ready to go, the layout, tools, products and clients. All I needed was staff and a pair of scissors.”

Opportunity for more local owners

Just Cuts CEO Amber Manning says Kimberley’s journey highlights the career pathways and business success available through franchising particularly for women, career-changers, and stylists ready to take the next step.

“Kimberley’s story shows what’s possible when passion meets opportunity. We’d love to see more Illawarra locals follow in her footsteps.”

Just Cuts is now welcoming expressions of interest from aspiring franchise owners across Wollongong, Shellharbour and surrounding regions.
